How to play

Tap the title, or press Space or Enter, to start. Press anywhere and drag to fly: drag left or right to turn, up to climb and down to dive. Let go and the plane levels out. Your guns fire by themselves when a raider is in front of you. When ON YOUR SIX appears, drag toward the red arrows to break, then turn back onto the attacker. Shoot down each stage's raiders to move on; in stage 6 hit the Anvil's turrets, then its engines, then its core. Flying straight and doing nothing gets you shot down.

Controls

  • Fly: press and drag anywhere on the screen (finger or mouse)
  • Keyboard: Arrow keys or W / A / S / D steer
  • Shoot: automatic whenever a raider is in front of your nose
  • Start or play again: tap, or press Space / Enter
  • Mute: the speaker button or M

Tips

  • When a raider is on your tail, drag toward the red arrows to break, then reverse your turn onto it.
  • Holding one turn forever is predictable: change direction when tracers close in.
  • Attack Bruisers from below their tail, where the tail gunner cannot reach you.
  • Every fifth kill rings the Toll: nearby raiders hold their fire and you get some hull back.
  • On the Anvil, break off when a turret's bracket turns amber; it is about to fire.

About Anvil Skies

Anvil Skies is a 3D arcade dogfight over the Reach, a sea of basalt stacks under a thunderhead that never leaves. You fly a Skerry Mk IV, a stocky propeller fighter of the Gull Watch, against the Rookery's sky raiders. Your guns fire on their own whenever a raider crosses your nose, so the whole game is in how you fly.

Six stages take you from golden hour through a squall to a pink dusk: Out of the Sun, Stack Alley, Squall Line, The Tollbridge, Black Vane and The Anvil. Light Scrappers hunt in pairs, heavy Bruisers carry a tail gunner, and the ace Black Vane turns almost as tightly as you do. In the last stage the armoured airship the Anvil comes out of its storm cloud: shoot its four turrets, then its two engines, then the glowing core to clear the skies.

When a raider gets on your tail, red arrows show which way to break. Every fifth kill rings the old bell of the Tollbridge and rattles the raiders nearby. Chain kills for a multiplier, thread the stone arches and the hanging airship skeleton for bonus points, and stay inside the arena: fly too far out and the Squall takes you. Clearing a stage patches up your hull, and your best score is kept on this device.
